چکیده

Environmental regulations coupled to market pressures have forced the pulp and paper industry to explore alternatives to chlorine based bleaching practices for the production of bleached kraft pulp.Various technologies and bleaching chemicals have been suggested as answers to kraft pulp bleaching concerns, from which oxygen, ozone and peroxides are the leading candidates for chlorine replacement. Unfortunately, these chemicals are not without drawbacks. Oxygen delignification is effective but its delignification effectiveness is limited to about 50% after which a severe loss of pulp strength occurs. Hydrogen peroxide under alkaline or acidic conditions is not an effective delignifying agent while ozone is considerably more effective but it promotes aggressive radical reactions which cause undesirable carbohydrate degradation. High brightness pulps appear to be difficult to produce only by applying suclowing classifications:

Influence of Fungal Enzyme Pre-treatment on Totally Chlorine-free (TCF) Bleaching of Dimethyl Formamid Bagasse Pulp

A study was carried out on totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleachability of dimethyl formamide (DMF) treated bagasse pulps exposed to CZ-3 and FP 90031-sp strains of white-rot fungus Ceriporiopsis subvermispora. This process involved an oxygen and peroxide stage bleaching sequence. The effect of enzymatic stage on bleachability properties was studied and compared with control pulps, processed witho...

Polyoxometalates in Oxidative Delignification of Chemical Pulps: Effect on Lignin

Chemical pulps are produced by chemical delignification of lignocelluloses such as wood or annual non-woody plants. After pulping (e.g., kraft pulping), the remaining lignin is removed by bleaching to produce a high quality, bright paper. The goal of bleaching is to remove lignin from the pulp without a negative effect on the cellulose; for this reason, delignification should be performed in a ...

Activation of alkaline peroxide delignification using vanadium peroxo complex

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE HAS ALWAYS been a technologically attractive oxidant to the pulp and paper industry, with its significance becoming increasingly important as environmental regulations become more stringent. Beyond its ease of handling and application, hydrogen peroxide is also a versatile and benign compound whose decomposition products are water and oxygen. Among its major drawbacks are its ...

Influence of Xylan Content on the Oxygen Delignification Performance of Eucalypt Kraft Pulps as Studied Using Prehydrolysis and Xylanase Treatments

Common metrics for evaluating the efficiency of oxygen delignification include the kappa number and Klason lignin content. As a change in xylan content often leads to a change in HexA content, the kappa number must be corrected for the HexA contribution before evaluating the degree of oxygen delignification when trying to understand the process in detail. Questions could also be raised about th...

Selectivity improvement and extractive removal by various pretreatment methods prior to oxygen delignification for Acacia mangium and mixed hardwood kraft pulps

The objective of this study was to evaluate different pretreatment methods prior to oxygen delignification on extractives removal and O-delignification selectivity. Four different pretreatment methods were used including ultrasonic treatment, hot water soaking, soda addition-preheating, and applying a high-shear mechanical pretretament. Acacia mangium and mixed hardwood (MHW) kraft pulps were u...
